Salem Homeschool Academy would like to share these classes with you for the 2013/2014 school year.

Core 40 Academic Diploma: minimum number of credits is 40, but for Academic Honor's Diploma the minimum number of credits is 47. Students desiring the Honor's diploma should consider taking 6-8 classes a year, via SHA and/or homeschooling, and earn at least 10 and preferably 14-15 credits a year: 4 years of English, 4 years of math, 3 years of science, 3 years of history, 3-4 years of a foreign language, 1 year of P.E., 1-2 years of Fine Arts, 4 years of electives.

ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS
Core 40 requires students to complete eight credits of a combination of English and Language Arts. Instructions for completing this requirement state that the units should include a balance of literature, composition and speech. Each semester is one unit, and a yearlong course earns two units.

MATHEMATICS
Students must take six credits of math. Students must complete two credits of Algebra I, two credits of Geometry and two credits of Algebra II. (Or complete Integrated Math series I, II, and III for 6 credits). All students are required to take a math or physics course during their junior or senior year.

SCIENCE
Students must pass six credits of science. The six credits must include two credits of Biology I. Students then have the option of taking two credits of Chemistry I, Physics I or Integrated Chemistry-Physics. The last two units can be used to take any Core 40 science course.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Students must complete six units of Social Studies to qualify for graduation. Students are to take two credits of U.S. History, one credit of U.S. Government and one unit of Economics. Also, students must fulfill two credits of either World History/Civilization or Geography/History of the World.

To complete the Core 40 program and graduate from high school in Indiana, you must take five directed elective credits. The directed elective credits come from the areas of world languages, fine arts, and career and technical education.
